From rest home support to hospital and dementia care.
Following a NASC assessment, residents may be recommended for one of several levels of care, depending on their needs. Leticia and Richard talk about the three main types of care available at Rawhiti Estate: rest home level, hospital level, and secure dementia care.
Residents assessed for rest home level care typically need minimal assistance and can still manage many daily tasks independently, with some supervision or support. Hospital level care is more intensive, suited to those who require greater physical assistance, regular prompting, or full support from the clinical team.
Meanwhile, secure dementia care is designed for residents who experience cognitive decline and present safety risks, such as wandering or difficulty finding their way home. They would be safer and more at ease in a secure, specialised environment.
While these categories help guide level of care decisions, Richard emphasises that every person is assessed individually. The Rawhiti team works closely with NASC to ensure that each resident receives the level of care that best fits their unique circumstances.
